Happy Holidays

We know there are hundreds of places to get books and magazines around the world so thank you for choosing Weightless for your DRM-free, always available ebooks. We’re always happy to help readers find good books on the site and would love for you to help spread the word.
I have a few quick gifting recommendations before the actual day of Christmas rolls around. The quickest and easiest gifts are gift certificates which you can give in any amount you choose: $0.99 to $999.00 (or more!). The certificate is good for anything on the site and does not expire.
Sending friends and family and fellow readers ebooks is also very easy. Just check the “This is a gift order” button when checking out.
For recommendations:
The last issue of Electric Velocipede is a huge, great read.
Apex dropped the price of many of their back issues: issues 15 through 29 are now $1.99 (down from $2.99).
Do you read ebooks on an iPad or other tablet? PDFs are a good way to go and all the Lightspeed, Nightmare, and Fantasy Magazine issues now have PDF versions! Check them out here.
And don’t forget you can get collections from Ken McLeod, Ursula K. Le Guin, Karen Joy Fowler, Kim Stanley Robinson, Nalo Hopkinson, Terry Bisson, and Cory Doctorow for 50% off from PM Press.
Want to get rely into the holiday spirit? Try Season of Wonder edited by Paula Guran and featuring Harlan Ellison, James Patrick Kelly, Ellen Kushner, Charles de Lint, M. Rickert, Connie Willis, Robert Charles Wilson, and Gene Wolfe, among others.
Happy holidays and be excellent to one another!
So many excellent subscriptions!
Ebooks? Electric Velocipides!
Tags: Electric Velocipede, Gemma, Wildside PressMan, that was a big night here in the USA last night. The future is looking brighter to me again now! Time for some good reading? When isn’t it?
Big news for fans of well-designed and edited zines (everyone?), we now have Electric Velocipede Subscriptions. The subscriptions are for 12 months/4 issues of Electric Velocipede in the format of your choice beginning with the current issue, the just-released no. 24. John Klima et al did a successful Kickstarter for EV earlier this year and they are supercharged and ready to entertain. And $6.50 for 4 issues is a steal!
Space and Time subscribers just received the latest issue: #116(!), which features Scott Edelman, John R. Fults, David M. Rheingold, and editor Hildy Silverman. Reminder: We’re getting into the last week of the Apex Subscription Drive. Check out the prizes!
We also have new titles from Wizards Tower and Wildside has a couple of new Christmas-themed magapacks (ack, too early!) as well as a Victorian Mystery Megapack with 25 stories (Dickens, Kipling, john Kendrick Bangs, etc.) and 2 bonus novels.
Electronical Velocipede
Tags: Aqueduct Press, Electric VelocipedeYay and verily we can at last recommend that ye get on your electronical bike—aka your Electric Velocipede—and take a quick spin through some back issues. The excellent John Klima just sent us a couple of double issues: 15/16, 17/18, and a couple of singletons—19 and 20—as well as the latest ish, No. 23. Check out Thom Davidsohn’s excellent cover art for each issue here. Electric Velocipede has always been a really visual mag so I hope you enjoy the design as well as the contents.
For fans of DRM-free stuff (and who isn’t? Did you see O’Reilly sold 22K ebooks on DRM-free day? Awesome!), here’s a link to Defective by Design’s page of DRM-free suggestions.
We also added more Wildside Press titles as well as Rebecca Ore’s Becoming Alien trilogy, newly released as ebooks by Aqueduct Press. (They have a bunch of books I need to pick up, can’t decide whether to get print or ebook. Ha!)
Thaddeus suggested we add Night Shade Books, so we’ll give them a shout and see what they say. Night Shade are another press with a bunch of books I need to pick up! Wish I were going to WisCon where I’d be able to get them from some fave booksellers in the dealer’s room. Something I hope to do for years, no matter how popular ebooks—and this lovely site—become.
Welcoming Electric Velocipede
Tags: Electric Velocipede, Lightspeed, new publishers, Prime BooksWe’ve been looking forward to adding John Klima (et al’s!) zine Electric Velocipede and are so happy to announce: here it is! The first ebook we’re adding is the current issue, #21/22, a huge double issue that includes many Weightless faves such as Genevieve Valentine, Peter M. Ball, and many more.
One of the things I really like about this site is that when I read a great short story by someone, say Genevieve Valentine or Jay Lake, with one click I can usually find a few more stories by them. As we add more magazines, this feature is only going to get richer.
Japanese Dreams: Fantasies, Fictions and Fairytales, edited by Sean Wallace, another new addition, is a good example as it has fiction from these writers, all of whom you can check out more stories by: Catherynne M. Valente, Ekaterina Sedia,Erzebet Yellowboy, Eugie Foster, Jay Lake, Lisa Mantchev, Richard Parks, Sean Wallace,Steve Berman, and Yoon Ha Lee.
Of course the big news this week has been the giveaways: Jeff VanderMeer’s Secret Lives limited edition giveaway) has been flying off the shelf and the Lightspeed & Fantasy Subscription Drive has proved exceedingly popular. Please do spread the word as the more subscriptions there are, the more prizes there are all round!
As always, thanks for reading. It’s Independence Day in the USA next week and we’ll be celebrating Independents Week as well. We all shape our towns (and the internet!) by choosing which stores to shop at: thank you for choosing this indie (e)bookshop.
