World Fantasy Awards 2013
Tags: World Fantasy Awards
A few years ago I was on the jury for the World Fantasy Awards and ever since then I’ve been even more of the opinion that to be nominated is the big win. Sure, it is lovely to get a statue, but the jury get hundreds of submissions (and thousands of stories) and the convention members nominate even more so it is a real kick to see what reaches the final ballot.
This year the ballot is very broad and it is exciting to see two stories from Beneath Ceaseless Skies on there—interesting as ever to see how many online stories there are in the short story section. Not so much in the novellas, where I think it was just one, K.J. Parker’s “Let Maps to Others” from Subterranean. And Kelly just read and loved Rob Shearman’s collection Remember Why You Fear Me so she was happy to see it there. At Small Beer, we’re thrilled of course to see some of our books. No hubris or false modesty here, it is an honor to see the books nominated!
Anyway, here are the nominees we have on Weightless—the full list is up at Locus. It’s worth noting that Lightspeed #27, with Kat Howard’s “Breaking the Frame“, can be downloaded for free here. Ok, so we don’t have anything from Susan Cooper, but we hae to celebrate that! As ever, big congratulations to all the finalists!
