June 2013 bestsellers

Tags:

The June issues of Lightspeed and Nightmare tied with the non-John Joseph Adams edited New York Review of Science Fiction as last month’s bestsellers. June was a magazine-y month which made Michael and I wonder if we should spend more time adding mags and step back a bit on acquiring new publishers such as O’Reilly Media? Tell us what you like best.

Two novels (besides Ginn’s excellent Wicked Gentlemen and Lord of the White Hell) made the list: Stranger in Olondria by Sofia Samatar which carries over from last month and the fun-looking Death by Silver by Melissa Scott & Amy Griswold. Melissa Scott’s earlier novel Point of Hope was very popular on Weightless, too.

In subscriptions Clarkesworld was the most popular again. “Immersion” by Aliette de Bodard, originally published in Clarkesworld issue 69 in June 2012, just picked up the Locus and Nebula awards, a lovely double whammy! Sometimes with a bestseller chart it’s not that one title sold less this month, it’s that others sold more and that’s what happened with the rest of the titles in the subscription list. (See last month’s here for comparison.)

How about another one of those site wide sales….I bought a number of books when you had that last time. Buying Locas Magazine at full price is painful and without a discount I let my subscription lapse. One of the main reasons I shifted some of my purchasing from amazon was the sales…..
